St Helens Borough Council's Library Service has commissioned Artist Led St Helens to devise and deliver this programme of work. Supported by Arts Council England, thanks to funding from taxpayers, the commission forms part of the Arts in Libraries initiative, helping creatives to develop their practice.
SHIFT is a curatorial and participatory project produced by Tobias Ferguson for Artist-Led St Helens, funded by Arts Council England and the UK Government. Acting as both curator and creative producer, Tobias developed the full programme from concept to exhibition, exploring ideas of transformation, rhythm, and collective change.
Through a series of Ideas Labs, workshops, and an exhibition showcase, SHIFT invited artists and local communities to examine how creative practice can mirror cycles of renewal found in both nature and human experience. The project culminated in an immersive exhibition that transformed the gallery into a living space for dialogue, experimentation, and reflection.
Rooted in collaboration and curatorial design thinking, SHIFT embodies Tobias Ferguson’s wider studio ethos, creating spaces where art, material, and emotion intersect to generate meaningful public connection.
